Celebrate a Healthier Richland County
Participate in Palmetto Health’s Healthy Richland Walk and Family Health Festival

Bring the family to Riverfront Park for Palmetto Health’s annual Healthy Richland Walk and Family Health Festival Saturday, May 12.

All ages are welcome to participate in the walk. Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by a presentation announcing the winners of the Healthy Richland Worksite Award and mascot-naming contest. The walk begins at 9 a.m. As part of the warm-up exercise, walkers can join in the state’s largest Electric Slide.

Participants are encouraged to walk at their own pace and go as far as they like. Walkers can continue their path to good health by joining a free Healthy Richland walking club. Registered walkers receive a pedometer, access to America On the Move's website service that tracks each walker’s progress, a monthly newsletter and incentives for reaching goals.

After the walk, participants are invited to stay for the Family Health Festival, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Co-sponsored by Palmetto Healthy Start and Richland County First Steps, the free event will celebrate children and families through games, door prizes, music, a cookout, bike rodeo and more. Free health screenings will be provided. Health and safety information booths also will be available.

To register for the walk, call Palmetto Health at 296-CARE or visit healthyrichland.org.

Palmetto Health’s Office of Community Services offers a series of health care initiatives to uninsured and underinsured people in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield and Pickens counties. In addition to other efforts, services include free cancer, diabetes and vision screenings, plus smoking cessation and diabetes prevention classes.
